The South Riding Beekeepers Association (SRBA) is a group of beekeepers based in South Yorkshire, who share a keen interest in bees, beekeeping and honey. The Association was formed in December 1999 following the amalgamation of the Rotherham and South Yorkshire Beekeeping Associations (the Rotherham Association having been formed since 1964).
The South Riding Beekeepers Association is primarily aimed at beekeepers who already keep bees, for beginners and those who intend to keep bees and need advice and instruction. We have regular meetings held during the winter months from October to April, where we are kept informed by visiting speakers through interesting talks on various aspects of beekeeping. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in an upstairs function room at the Phoenix Club, Pavilion Lane, Brinsworth.
Past speakers have included talks on wax modelling and candle making, bee diseases, early spring management, the British Bee Breeding Programme, mead and wine making, preparing honey and other bee products for show and sale, pollination under glass in a 2.5 acre greenhouse – to name but a few! We usually hold a honey show at the beginning of our winter programme with various categories including a novice class and a honey cake category.
Being a member of an association like the SRBA enables you to meet like-minded people on a regular basis and you will learn something new at each meeting, enabling you to share experiences good or bad! There is the opportunity to make friends and become involved in a fascinating hobby.
If you have an interest in bees and beekeeping, why not contact us to find out about the benefits of becoming a member of the SRBA.
